Two major sonatas from the Central European tradition (the “Viennese” Sonata in B flat for Violin and Keyboard K. 454 by Mozart, which was dedicated to the violin virtuosa from Mantua, Regina Strinasacchi, and the last Brahms sonata, which he created during three summers of hard work spent on the banks of Lake Thun), are matched with several outstanding and evocative works: the Poème written by Ernest Chausson in 1896 in Florence for his violinist friend Eugène Ysaÿe (initially entitled Le Chant de l’Amour Triomphant), Capriccio Basco and Carmen Fantasy by the violinist-composer Pablo de Sarasate.
