Two important historical pieces for piano trios: the first Johannes Brahms Trio, the very first chamber music composition that Brahms produced with youthful enthusiasm and stürmisch between late 1853 and early 1854 and then revised considerably in 1891, and a Ravel masterpiece from the musician’s mature years, written feverishly during a long stay in the lower Pyrenees in 1914. At that time the mood was heavy with the imminent outbreak of World War 1, and Ravel felt it was his duty to offer his own contribution by enlisting to serve in the war.
